Barndo Renovation | Electrical, Sheetrock, Cabinets, Countertops, and Paint

So much has changed with the house project. And it is all so exciting! It is starting to feel like a real house because the walls are finally closed in.

Electrical

Getting all of the rough electrical installed took a couple of weeks. We had to make decisions about where we wanted plugs, light switches, fans, and lights. Fortunately, Charlie and I like to do our research and had already decided on mostly everything before we even met with the electrician. It was helpful to already have a plan so that I wasn’t getting all stressed out in the moment. The kids were bummed that they couldn’t cut through the walls anymore because there were wires running through them all. And apparently I didn’t take many pictures of the electrical. This one is all I could find!

Sheetrock

Getting the sheetrock up instantly changes everything. The walls are closed in, the rooms are cut off from each other, and you get a better sense of how the light will be throughout the house. I was pleasantly surprised at how much light is still coming into the kids rooms, the hallway, Charlie’s office, the master bathroom, and even the master closet. The movie room is in the direct center of the project, thus no windows, and no light. But that’s how we wanted it to be. Nice and dark for movie night. It should work well.

The sheetrock made a huge mess. There was dust and mud everywhere! It’s really hard to keep the house clean when you want to walk out and check out what happened with the project during the day. When you come back in the house, there are white footprints following you wherever you step. Because of it, I’ve been trying to implement a better no shoe policy in the house. It is sort of helping.

With the sheetrock going up, I find my patience starting to thin. I keep hoping that the project will go faster, but there are still so many steps to complete.

Cabinets, countertops, and paint

The cabinets are beautiful. We had custom cabinetry built for the kids bathroom, the master bathroom, desks for the kids, and shelving in Charlie’s office. They fit perfectly in the spaces we designed. We went with a basic quaker cabinet front. They will be painted a rosemary green color. Paint is actually happening right now! It started last week and of course is moving slower than I want it too. There are several steps involved with priming, sanding, vacuuming, staining, and sealing for each of the different areas. I’m just glad that someone else is doing it instead of me. It would take me forever and it wouldn’t look nearly as nice.

I love how the bathroom countertops turned out. We picked a simple white marble. I hope they match well with the cabinet color we picked. I’ll be going to check that out later today. Fingers crossed that my interior design skills are somewhat decent.

We are grateful for each step on this house project. It is getting closer and closer to getting the kids out of the trailer and finally being able to unpack some boxes!
