Valentine’s Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Kisses

These were always one of my favorite, once a year treats.  My mom only ever made them on Valentine’s Day, but without fail, they were there waiting for us when we woke up every single year on February 14th. The chocolate Rice Krispies made them especially yummy and I would eat it very slowly, making it last as long as possible.  I began the tradition with my own kids and now if for some reason I even talk about NOT doing them, I get in big trouble.  My mom has also continued to mail them to us for Valentine’s Day even when we moved farther away!

They are so easy to make! Just a typical Rice Krispie treat recipe, but make sure and use the full 1/2 cup butter. That’s the biggest difference between these and the recipe you’ll find on the back of the box. The extra butter helps keep them much softer if you like them like that. We sure do!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 16 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 cups chocolate Rice Krispies cereal

Directions

  • Thoroughly coat a large cookie sheet with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add the marshmallows and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted.  Add the vanilla and stir to combine
  • Remove the pot from the heat, stir in the cereal, and mix well.
  • Scrape the mixture onto the prepared cookie sheet, dividing into 6 even sections.  Let cool until it is not too hot to the touch.  Spray your hands hands with cooking spray and carefully form each section into a chocolate kiss shape (circular bottom, tapering to a point at the top).  Allow to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, wrap each Krispie Treat Kiss in plastic wrap followed by a layer of foil, shaping it around the kiss.
  • *If desired, before wrapping with foil, place a thin strip of paper along the bottom, up the side, and sticking out the top.  The paper could be decorated with cute hearts, the name of the individual receiving the treat, and even a special message.
